From Body Image to Fashion Trends: The GLP-1 Question
www.vogue.comAs GLP-1 weight-loss medications spark conversations around body image, questions are emerging about their potential influence on fashion trends. In a recent analysis, Vogue Business explored this connection through the Spring/Summer 2027 collections, examining the rise of sheer fabrics, lingerie-inspired dressing, delicate lace, and fluid silhouettes. However, as our senior Fashion Analyst Frida Tordhag noted, our data does not reveal a clear correlation between GLP-1 use and these emerging trends.
The data highlights the growing momentum behind lingerie-inspired dressing, sheer fabrics, and delicate lace, alongside a preference for fluid, voluminous silhouettes. Heuritech's analysis reveals that searches for mini trapeze dresses increased by 31% in China and 15% in Europe year-on-year, while interest in fine lace rose by 41% in China and 19% in Europe.
The analysis also challenges the assumption that changing body ideals are driving a shift toward tighter clothing, with bodycon dresses and slim trousers declining across key markets. Instead, the data points to a more nuanced approach to body-conscious dressing, where transparency, volume, and softer fabrics redefine how the body is expressed.
